Ember & Yard is an independent publication for people who want to get more out of their backyards, whether that means a better weeknight grill setup, a fire pit the whole family enjoys, or a small patio that finally feels like an outdoor room.

How we research
Our guides are research-based. We draw on manufacturer documentation, published safety guidance from organizations such as the NFPA, the U.S. Fire Administration, the CPSC, and the USDA, and other reputable sources. We cite sources for factual claims like safety distances and food-safety temperatures.
We are upfront about what we have and haven’t done: unless an article explicitly says otherwise, we have not personally tested the products mentioned, and we never invent test results, ratings, specs, or prices. If something in a guide is out of date or wrong, we want to fix it.
